Jordan air strikes kill civilians in Syria after deadly church attack

Jordanian jets hit militant hideouts in southern Syria on Monday, causing at least seven civilian deaths, including three children and a woman, and reportedly eliminating around 20 Islamic State fighters and a weapons depot. The raids were a retaliation for a funeral attack on St George’s Church in Karak that killed nine people. Syria responded by closing the Nassib border crossing, launching an investigation, and condemning the strikes as a breach of sovereignty. Jordan arrested three male suspects – two brothers and their brother‑in‑law – linked to the church attack.

Jordan detains three men over Karak church killings

Jordanian security forces arrested three men on Monday after a shootout at an abandoned house in al-Judayyda, near Karak, according to the Public Security Directorate. The men, all Jordanian and from one family, are suspected of carrying out the Friday attack on St George's Greek Orthodox Church in Hammoud that killed nine people and wounded dozens. One suspect is in critical condition and two are stable, and no security personnel were hurt. Jordan's air force then struck military hideouts in southern Syria, with officials saying many militants were killed or wounded; Syrian authorities had not immediately confirmed the strikes.

Israel election count continues, Netanyahu bloc projected at 53 seats

More than 29,000 double‑envelope ballots, about 6 % of the total, have been counted, and the Central Elections Committee expects the remaining count to finish by the afternoon. Projections after regular ballots show Benjamin Netanyahu’s right‑religious bloc at 53 seats, Gadi Eisenkot’s opposition at 48 seats, and Arab‑led parties at 19 seats, leaving all three blocs short of the 61 seats needed for a majority. Voter turnout reached 77.7 %, the highest since 1999.
