A Russian drone struck a crowded platform at Dnipro railway station in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, 29 Oct, killing at least 14 people, according to Ukrainian authorities. Thirteen to fourteen others were wounded, several seriously, including a child. Ukraine's air force said it intercepted three drones in the daytime attack, but a fourth evaded defences and hit the station. The platform held a commuter train and a passenger train bound for Zaporizhzhia. The strike came while a fragile ceasefire in the occupied city of Oleshky was in its third day.

The Student List won a parliamentary majority in Serbia's 250-seat assembly, taking 141 seats against 104 for the Serbian Progressive Party, according to preliminary results from the state election commission. Aleksandar Vučić, president until his resignation last month and head of the SNS ticket, conceded defeat about 1.5 hours after polls closed on 25 Oct. The movement, which grew out of protests after a 2024 railway canopy collapse in Novi Sad killed 16 people, fielded 250 candidates from academia, medicine, law, arts and farming. Tens of thousands celebrated across the country. Final results may take weeks because of appeals and possible reruns.

Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat less than two hours after the 25 Oct snap parliamentary election closed, with the Students' List securing roughly 53% of the vote and an estimated 140 seats in the 250‑member assembly. Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party obtained about 39% of the vote, translating to roughly 103‑105 seats. Voter turnout was 69% of the 6.4 million eligible voters. The student‑led movement, formally created just over a month before the vote, now holds a historic parliamentary majority, while Vucic, who resigned as president in September, had planned to become prime minister.
