A humanitarian convoy of 25 buses, ambulances and aid supplies entered Oleshky, a city on the Dnipro River in Ukraine's Kherson region, on Friday 30 Oct. The mission runs under a six-day local ceasefire brokered by the United States, which holds until Sunday evening. Residents had until 14:00 local time on Friday to decide whether to leave, and aid distribution to those remaining began after 14:30. Russian and Ukrainian human rights commissioners Yana Lantratova and Dmytro Lubinets say mine clearance on the routes is complete, though two people died during the clearance. Authorities and volunteers put the number still in the city at about 2,000, while The Independent cites up to 6,000.

Oleshky truce holds into its fourth day

A US-brokered local ceasefire in Oleshky, a Russian-occupied city in Ukraine's Kherson region, has held for three days with no reported breaches, officials in Kyiv and Moscow say. The truce began on 27 Oct and is scheduled to run until 1 Nov. It is meant to let humanitarian aid reach roughly 2,000 remaining residents, who have faced food, water and medicine shortages for months, and to allow those wishing to leave to evacuate. Military units have cleared landmines during the pause, and aid is expected to arrive on Friday.
