Everton beat Newcastle United 3-1 in the Carabao Cup fourth round, booking a quarter-final against Fleetwood Town. Jack Grealish, the Manchester City player on loan at Everton, was left out of the squad after the club said he breached club discipline by missing training without permission. Manager David Moyes declined to discuss the decision further, calling it a club matter. Grealish had missed the 2-0 league defeat at Arsenal the previous weekend through illness and has six Everton appearances this season.

Liverpool are set to host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup fourth round at Anfield on 28 Oct 2026, with a 20:00 GMT kickoff. Chelsea are managed by Xabi Alonso, a former Liverpool midfielder who returns to the ground he knows well. Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson now plays for Chelsea and will also face his old club. Liverpool have won four consecutive matches across all competitions, including a 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton and a 4-3 Champions League win over Villarreal. Chelsea beat Leeds 6-3 at Stamford Bridge in the previous round but lost 2-0 to Tottenham in the league.
