Supreme Court hears challenge to Palestine Action ban

Britain's Supreme Court opened a two-day hearing on Wednesday, 4 Nov, into a challenge by Palestine Action to its proscription as a terrorist organisation. The group, founded in 2020, was banned in July 2025 after attacks on defence firms, including a 2024 raid on Elbit Systems that caused about £1 million in damage. Campaigners and police report more than 4,000 arrests since the ban; police detained several protesters outside the court, and 325 people were arrested outside the US embassy in London on 31 Oct. Co-founder Huda Ammori argues the ban criminalises legitimate protest.

Police in London detained either 139 or 325 demonstrators outside the U.S. Embassy on 31 Oct for expressing support for the proscribed group Palestine Action, according to differing reports. The protest, organised by Defend Our Juries, featured retirees and other participants holding signs opposing genocide. The U.K. banned the group in 2025, making support punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Police Scotland investigated a separate demonstration at the U.S. Consulate in Edinburgh but made no arrests. A Supreme Court hearing on the ban is scheduled for 4 Nov.

UK bars Swedish academic Andreas Malm from entry

Britain has refused entry to Swedish climate academic Andreas Malm, who says he was turned away on Friday. The Home Office cancelled his Electronic Travel Authorisation, telling him his presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good, without further explanation. Malm was due to speak next Wednesday at an event organised by the socialist magazine Tribune alongside Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, a group proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK. Malm said he believes the decision is linked to that appearance. The Home Office says it does not comment on individual cases. Britain's Supreme Court is due to hear an appeal next week on the group's proscription.
