Tesla will cease Cybertruck production at its Austin Gigafactory around the middle of 2027 to free capacity for the Cybercab robotaxi line. The move follows a steep sales drop, with U.S. deliveries falling 48 % in 2025 to 20,237 units. In the same week, Tesla’s market value shrank by over $180 billion. The Austin plant remains the sole facility capable of building the pickup’s specialised parts, underscoring the shift’s logistical impact.

Sedans are making a comeback among young American drivers, according to Fortune. A September analysis by Compare.com of more than 58 million auto insurance quotes found eight of Gen Z's ten most commonly driven models are sedans. The top three are the Honda Civic, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Kelley Blue Book data from Cox Automotive shows a new compact car averaged $27,977 in September, while a compact SUV averaged $37,614. Ford and GM, which had dropped the segment, are reconsidering it.

Ford has announced its Fathom electric pickup, which will start at about $28,350 and launch next year. The truck has a built-in inverter able to send more than 10 kW of power into a home without a separate wall unit, allowing it to act as a backup battery during blackouts, according to Ford. Ford also gave prices for two new chargers, a Home Power Station at about $650 and a Home Backup Power package at about $2,100, both well below its first-generation hardware, though final pricing is still pending. The Fathom is the first vehicle on Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle Platform. The announcement follows Ford ending production of the F-150 Lightning in December 2025 and losing about $13 billion on EVs since that program began, per Fortune.
